Population Decline is Part of the Solution

We can begin to voluntarily limit family size and start reducing world population now. Population reduction is an essential part of minimizing climate change, famine, poverty and ecosystem collapse. It is time we acknowledge population's role in the sustainability equation and begin to implement truly sustainable population policies.

@unassumption, several nations today are well below replacement level fertility, completely voluntarily. So I might suggest that we not set ourselves up with what could become self-fulfilling prophecies. As for eugenics, well, did you put that in just to make sure no one takes you seriously?

I think this is a problem only with developing coountries. most developed can't even sustain thier own population.

Huge efforts need to be in place to prevent the exploding population's of 1) Africa 2) Asia and 3)south america. maybe a suggested limit given to each country by the UN with dis-incentives for those countries whom don't comply.

Actually population levels are a problem everywhere, because the total population on the planet is nearly 7 billion, while the planet cannot support nearly that many at current lifestyles. One fewer in a developed nation arguably moves us more toward a sustainable level than one fewer in a developing nation. But if we hope for everyone on the planet to have a good life, then fewer in developing nations over the long haul will be just as important.

@qbslug First of all, I prefer to inform, educate, inspire and motivate, rather than "preach" in the manner you use it. Second of all, a decision by a couple in a developed nation to have one less child will have far greater impact on the world than a similar decision in a developing nation. So I think it best that we are equal opportunity educators and not try to pick and choose who can benefit from our message.

I have a solution that can help the developed world right away. If we're the largest consumers per capita, lets end our irrational tendency to promote mass immigration. We have negative birth rates already. The only reason western populations are growing, is through immigration. Canada gets 300,000 immigrants every year!

My solution is not to have kids of my own, but adopt. If I can give a child a family they wouldn't have had and not increase population size, then it's win-win.

No matter the size of the population 'we' face extinction. It is unavoidable, We are in run away global warming now, nothing will stop what is in motion. The only good thing about not having children .... especially if you love them, is they 'if not born' will not suffer the double shit storm of peak oil and climate change, the next 10 - 20 years are going to be interesting, if not a tad fatal for most. Reducing population growth now will not stop what is already in motion, our collective future is set in cement, the only good thing to come out of not have children is the reduction in the numbers of people who are going to suffer, if you truly loved your children you wouldn't have any.

The planet is going to be around for another 4.5 billion years or so, it is us that are going, the next 25 years are going to be very interesting.

All families that earn less than $50.000 and have a baby boy, must allow doctors to perform a vasectomy and then when they are old enough and if they make enough money then doctors will reverse the vasectomy. That should eliminate the lower class and reduce the world population. In regards to 3rd world nations and Islamic nations (which believe they must reproduce as much as possible) we should destroy them through continuous wars and sanctions to prevent medical development...
