you need a very big and heavy lead acid battery pack in order to drive 40 miles in a modern car. And lead acid have big safety and environmental issues.

RAV4-EV had a nimh battery pack, nobody can't do nimh cars anymore because Chevron won't allow that (they have the patent)

The EV1 ran 100 miles on antiquated lead acid batteries. Why does the Volt only go 40 miles on space-age Lithium ion batteries??? GM is STILL CORRUPT!!!

Yeah but at the 121st mile the EV1 leaves you stranded wherever you happen to be. The volt can pull into any gas station and refuel. It's called range anxiety, and that is what killed the pure electric car. Only a handful of people want a car that can virtually never go more than 60 miles from home. The Volt can drive across country just like any regular car.
