Live Drama: Last of 33 miners rescued, Chile wild with joy

The ordeal of 33 trapped Chilean miners is finally over after the 24-hour operation to bring them to the surface. The shift supervisor was the last to be freed. They'd spent more than two months trapped underground, following a rockfall. All 33 emerged safely - and in much better physical condition than had been expected. But they're still being given thorough checks in hospital.

So much hate on these miners jesus...they were trapped in there not knowing if they'd live to see natural light or see their families. You know what would have been worse? Oh sure you all are used to eating and sitting back at the tv like kings. These people...not even twice a day and barely water, not to mention they had to do constant exercises to be able to fit in the pod(Assuming lack of food would cause them to become skinny). They are heroes since they achieved something great. Surviving!

The educational issue in Chile reflects on the notorious inequality that exists here, the upper class pays less taxes than the middle class. The same that happens woth education happens with health services.

As i said before, it will take time and it must take time, if done radically there will be, as you said '' more problems than solutions''. I've read in some comments, ( not yours) people talking about anarchysm and communism, it is not. It is about making this country more fair .

@MironB30 and the access to universities is pretty expensive, so the chilean people , specially middle class, ends up with giant debts. The education minister, expressed in his last press conference aftear a talk with the movement leaders, that if education ends up being free, the poor will have to pay the rich one's education. This is true, but the minister ignored the tax reform proposition made by this movement, which demands that taxation is proportional to the income of the indivudual.

@MironB30 I invite you to check the INE (instituto nacional de estadisticas) statistics, or the ones from the OCDE, organization in wich Chile is a member, knowing the actual numbers that the state invests on education, it really doesn't surprise me that next year's budget is the '' biggest one ever''.

But the truth is that this is not a problem that can be solved in a short deal of time, it is a fact that Chilean public education does not have a good quality.

@Emecepola Nobody knows the price of the copper in one month more.How could they be so sure that only 40% will be enough in next 10 years?Budget has to be assigned from one year to another and it is not possible to make budget decisions for 5 or 10 years more.Besides,it is not only the way to finance education but the healt of doing that.If you don't want low salaries,high inflation,high taxes and low growing,universitary education can not be free.Examples of that error are Argen and Venez.
