A principal exhaust fan is used to provide fresh into a home. Energy Efficient and air tight homes have minimal air leakage and thus poor indoor air quality. Problem is that at -30 you probably won't run this unit, which is when you also probably need to run it.
An HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) would be a preferred alternative. It provides fresh air efficiently as it takes the heat from the air being discharged to warm intake air.
