Absolutely, though of course this one was a 'replacement', after the ever short-sighted British Rail scrapped all of the original A1 class! The most short sighted of all was to rip up thousands of miles of track and give up the land instead of mothballing it, now its impossible to reinstate most of what was lost.

Whether it's American, British, or elsewhere, it's always great to see a good old steam-powered locomotive in operation. I hope this inspires American Rail to be more diligent in maintaining and keeping around the old locomotives. It's such a beautiful sight and sound, that can never be replaced.

@airscrew1 , While most if not all British main and branch line steam engines used to run on coal because it was so abundant in Britain there were a small number of oil burning steam locomotives especially in the industrial and narrow gauge areas - I think the famous Welsh Ffestiniog narrow-gauge railway uses some oil burning steam locomotives. Coal fired locos have a tendency to produce sparks which set fire to dry crops and woodlands. Apparently this is much less of a problem with oil burners.

@mackat4ck : Only one new-build A1, but they are going to paint Tornado Brunswick Green over the winter, then it will be a darker colour. Also before it was Apple Green it was in its grey primer during testing.
