Dr. Frank Detterbeck describes placement of On-Q catheters for post-operative pain control after thoracotomy/VATS, using a blunt tunneler. This technique has been shown to work as well as a thoracic epidural for thoracotomy pain control, without the potential complications of an epidurals (and the extra work). THis technique is also SIGNIFICANT:Y better than pain management with narcotics.
