Welcome one and all to the Jim Class. If you're looking to buy a camcorder, this is the video for you. Having spent close to $25,000 in my life on camcorders, I've learned a few lessons that I'll share here.

This is an informational video. I tried to make it fun, but it's not really "comedy". That said, yu may still find it useful if you need a camera. If you don't need a camera, I am editing 4 different videos that I hope to have up shortly!

Later!

  • Great video!!

What video editing software do you use btw?

    Cheers!

  • Mostly I use Premiere Pro, but I've been knowt to put a video together with Vegas and Avid in the past, too. Thanks for watching!

  • Um, Hello? Ever hear of CMOS or 3 CMOS? They are better than a single CCD. And also, camcorders this last few months that are hard drive let you edit easily with awsome quallity!

  • I hope this doesn't sound rude, but, did you read the big text next to the video that said "Added: November 10, 2006"? :-P

Two years ago, CMOS was crap. Heck, most pros today are still hesitant about it.

Hard drive Camcorders have gone a long way in the last nearly 2 years. I still wouldn't want one myself, and most still use MPEG2 compression, but the compression is getting less lossy. However, for SD, DV25 (MiniDV tape) is still the least compressed and the best for pro editing.

    Peace! :-D

  • Sorry! I didnt see the time!

  • LOL! No problem at all, my friend. Mistakes happen :-)

  • I'm looking for a camcorder for a week now. I've watched tons of videos, tutorials, example footage etc. and I have to say that your buying guide is the best so far. Hardly anyone mentions things like white balance setting in their videos.

  • jim class maybe... gym class no.

  • I have sony vegas 8, whats a good sony camcorder thats under $400 to $300? I hear reviews about low lighting and flickering when zooming and all that stuff.

  • you are so fat ;D

  • i have a canon hv20. very happy with it. however; i feel it does not enough megapixels. is there anything out there comparable to my camera with more megapixels or am i asking for the sun and the moon? also, anybody from chicago out there? willing to pay for your tricks.

  • after having watched the entire vid there's important stuff here that is still very relevant especially for the novice
