Assigning the spectrum colours to the chakras is a Western invention and is not found in the Sanskrit texts. It will still yield results, but not as well as using the real colours. If you want to get correct information on the charkas as it was practiced by Indian gurus, I recommend reading the books of Dr. John Mumford, who has really been initiated in India. Correct colours: yellow ( Muladhara ), silver, red, blue, black, white, and red ( Sahasrasara ).
