Aikido throwing techniques in a particularly soft manner, by aikido instructor Stefan Stenudd, 6 dan Aikikai. Playful exercises of meeting, joining, break of balance and throwing, in aihanmi katatedori kokyuho type techniques. From a seminar in the Czech Republic, video taped by Larry Kwolek.

  • Have you ever tried a throw like that on a Judo player who hasn't been training under you for ten years? If not, I suggest you invite a friend who studies Judo onto your mat space one of these days for a little friendly horseplay. S/he will already know how to fall safely so no worries there. I really do believe such an experience would have a positive influence on your Aikido. Just a friendly suggestion.

  • @samdieternel, that' funny. I have practiced since 1972 and you take for granted - from watching these exercises that I call playful - that I never trained with any judoka. Well, I did, and they know about different modes of training.

  • @Aikidostenudd

No, sir! Please don't get me wrong. I could tell you've been committed to the path of Aikido for several years. I just think that if you're going to make any innovations, you should pressure test them at some point in some manner. Of course if you disagree with me, then chances are, you have your reasons and you're absolutely correct.

  • @samdieternel, I agree with you. Aikido should be practiced in different ways. I think I have uploaded videos that show different ways of training, and of doing the aikido techniques. At my dojo we do a lot of what I guess you would call pressure testing.

  • North American aikido as its usual flimsy self. Basically, tai chi for people who need status symbols like hakama (ME SAMURAI). As far as exercise goes, it's pretty bad. (Check out the waist size of the American aikido sensei (HUGE).

  • Actually, I'm Swedish :)

  • I understand that the point is to learn the dynamics of balance. But why does she just let herself drop?

  • respect from Indonesia, i'm a silat (silek) practitioner.. for me aikido is always impressive, please check a video entitled "Harimau Singgalang Volume 2" in youtube..that silat originally from my village, hope you like it

  • You need to train as if it were in real life if your going to let him just throw you around that's just what will happen to you

  • looks fake and gay

  • @dogchrist Yeah, well may I suggest telling that to any1 in a boxing/MT/MMA/BJJ/Judo club? Not only do those arts ( and countless others) look more badass, they also can ACTUALLY hurt people.

  • @electronikita

perhaps the already educated can enjoy discussing what they know to be true with out having to prove to the uninitiated like you, perhaps the fact that you don't know is evidense of how only the worthy know the true budo and the unworthy stick to the martial arts where they won't be able to hurt anyone but it looks more badass.

  • @electronikita you want proof that the founder of judo sent his students to train in aikido? When Kano witnessed an aikido demo, he said it was 'true budo. He sent some of his top students to Honbu dojo. The most notable was Kenji Tomiki. He was referred by Kano to Aikido, when he was already a 4th dan in Judo. A year after he started aikido, he was awarded 5th dan in judo. In 1930 Kano sent Minoru Mochizuki to study aikijujutsu under Ueshiba. Minoru went on to found Yoseikan Aikido.

  • @Aikidostenudd I, for one, would love to see a video of you sparring with a competent Judoka. In many cases, this is exactly what causes Aikidokas to become aware that their art is useless bullshit. If you've been training since 1972, what an especially rude awakening that would be. Such wasted time!

I have enjoyed hearing stories of Aikidokas being destroyed by Judokas and changing their paths because of it. I truly believe that you couldn't hold your own against an MMA practitioner.

  • @keepaware PROOF OR GTFO
