Cheyenne was doing Damn Yankees over the summer so Curtis took his spot. I will admit Cheyenne is better, but this was one of his first performances as Sonny. Also Curtis is a really good dancer, but is not as strong in the acting and singing departments. Hopefully, he has improved in acting and singing for West Side Story.
