Bao Xiong emigrated as a refugee from Laos and joined a small Hmong community in Wausau, Wisconsin, bringing with her little English, no formal education, and four small children. Seeing the difficulties facing other Hmong refugees in the area, she decided to learn as much as she could as quickly as possible in order to help others struggling to assimilate in their adopted country. This short film by fbi productions, profiling her story, premiered at the First Annual Volvo for life Awards ceremony in New York in April 2003. For more information visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com.
