Praise be to Allah. We humbly ask Allah to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad. This is a book called 'Tahdhib al-Asma' wal-Lughat'. It was authored by the scholar, al-Hafiz Imam Abu Zakariyya Muhyyid-din Yahya ibnu Sharaf an-Nawawiyy -- who died in 676H. This book was printed by Dar al-Kutub al-^ilmiyyah, First Edition in 1428H. On page 277 of this book VOLUME 2 Imam an-Nawawiyy states: "...and al-Bayhaqiyy related in 'Manaqib ash-Shafi^iyy' that Imam ash-Shafi^iyy, may Allah raise his rank, said: "innovations are of two types. One of them is what was innovated in violation with the Holy Book -- Qur'an-, the Sunnah, the sayings and practices of the companions or with the Ijma^; and this is the innovation of misguidance. The second one is what was innovated of good deeds without any disagreement among any of the scholars; and this IS NOT A DISLIKED INNOVATION." ...end of ash-Shafi^iyy's quote. This is what we follow with all due praise to Allah. Shaykh Gilles Sadek
