65 years since liberation from the nazi occupier at the hands of heroic Canadian troops. This was the last veteran parade in Apeldoorn, as so few are expected to be in good enough health to return in 5 years time. However, a special festival is plannened in its place to be held every 5 years. The opening was held in the Omnisport stadium in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. 9th May 2010. These are some highlights of the day.

Each of the living veterans represent many, many men and women who gave thier lives not for thier own country alone, but for strangers in a strange land. True heroes, never to be forgotten.

  • I'm wondering about the significance of the bicycle on the front of the vehicle at about :19. Wonderful parade. Hoping this stays posted, so that it can be replayed in the absence of yearly Apeldoorn parades now they have been discontinued.

  • @Cenchante Hi, and thanks for the comment. I'm not sure there is any symbolic significance of the motorbike, just functional in its day, and authentic now. :)

  • Great clip...thanks. With then Princess Juliana's residence in Canada during the War to the Liberation to the annual tulip festival in Ottawa the ties between the Netherlands and Canada will always be special. And we'll all be wearing orange tomorrow.

  • @bergkamp48 thanks! hoping for a win! :D

  • I attended both the Wageningen parade as a spectator, and marched with Canadian Army cadets in the Apeldoorn parade (5 min 33 sec). We very much enjoyed our trip, and were very touched at the Dutch hospitality.

  • @onesassytart thanks for coming! it was a memorable experience to see so many Canadian visitors and Veterans :)
