Music clip culled from the ABC Movie of the Week entitled "The Six Million Dollar Man" (1973) in which injured pilot Steve Austin (actor Lee Majors) is sent on a test mission in the Middle East desert to spot a military base and to free a prisoner. Electronic composer Gil Mellé fashions a music piece that first exploits melancolic classical music and jazz fanfare then switches to electro-modernist music and silky smooth jazz funk (see the eloquent race through the desert from 01:28).
imo this is why the intro was such a work of media art.. its all stuff from the pilot episode.

this is way before SMDM was co-opted by network bosses into a kids show. It was originally full-on sci-fi. Those shots of him running were superb imo..--like he is still not quite acclimated to bionic limbs. No sfx sounds just the lone agent in the desert running way faster than is normal.

Coincidently the CBS Pilot Movie The Marcus-Nelson Murders based on Fact Events for the Kojak series 1973-78 starring Telly Savalas also aired on the evening of March 7th,1973.

I love the music track all the way through this pilot movie, would love a copy without dialogue and cuts but can I find a CD? My favourite TV movie pilot but I am going to say that.

March 7th,1973. I remember this episode. It was featured in the ABC movie of the week with Kolchak The Night Stalker. Darren McGavin guested on this movie and the Night Stalker series.

I thought I was the only one who liked this track.

I usually like Gil Mellé stuff, but I have to say I really prefer the Oliver Nelson score. It shows all the strengh and power of the SMDM. And the slow motion really helps... This is from one of the pilots? Good to see/hear a new adding to your channel anyways...
