Matayoshi Shinpo Eku

Here's the Eku kata of Matayoshi Kobudo presented by master instructor, Matayoshi Shinpo. The late master studied both kobudo and Kingai Ryu directly under his father [Matayoshi Shinko] and Goju Ryu under the tutelage of Higa Seiko.

I love this kata, and love how it is presented here. I've been studying this kata for a few years, and each time I see it done by someone so knowledgeable as Matayoshi I learn something new. I feel students today too often rush into a new kata, hoping to win at a tournament or get a new rank. The happiest moment in my day is when I get to spend time with my oar.
