Wild Man Blues - Climax Jazz Band 1996

Recorded by Heritage video during the Gateway Jazz Festival in St Louis on November 2 1996 Toronto's Climax Jazz Band play the great jazz standard "Wild Man Blues initially recorded by Louis Armstrong and also by Jelly Roll Morton during the twenties.
Heitage recorded a full setand I just after many years found the VHS copy. I'm reasonabbly pleased with the overall quality and have decided to present to you the full concert in a separate playlist called "Climax in St Louis"
One of North America's finest reedplayers played with us for the full weekend replacing our Mick Lewis.
Pieter Meijers lives in Los Angeles and became leader of the very popular and great High Sierra Jazz Band around 2000.
Pieter grew up in the Netherlands and during his study years was very much influenced by the music of the Dutch Swing College Band. His style approach at times is reminiscent to that of the former DSC leader and originator Peter Schilperoort as well as of one of their other clarinettists Jan Morks.
Both our banjoist and I grew up in the Netherlands as well. When we met Pieter in the mid eighties at some jazz festival immediately a kind of bond was formed based on our mutual appreciation of our famous DSC.
Next to Bob Erwig cornet, Pieter Meijers clarinet and soprano sax and Jack Vincken banjo originally from the Netherlands, together with Len Gosling trombone and Chris Daniels bass from Great Britain, we see the band completed with Jamie Aug drums, a very young Canadian with a father from Germany.

  • This group is together. Cornet loved Davison. Soprano is a-1, and I don't like sopranoes to replace blacksticks, but he';s excellent. Dynamics good for a change.
