Montage for the 1967 NHL Season. I say NHL, it's mostly clips of the Habs. If you try not to blink you'll be able to see bits of the Leafs, Red Wings, Blackhawks, Rangers, and Bruins as well. Don't blame me, though, it's what I had to work with.

All clips are from the NFB short "Blades and Brass" located here: http://www.nfb.ca/film/blades_and_brass

I created this montage because I felt the music used in the short didn't quite fit and wanted to try something myself.

  • This was great hockey!

  • This would've been the last chance for the NHL to film slow-motion hockey a la Harold Barkley, as all the arenas housed antiquated lighting equipment. Who wouldn't have loved to see an entire hockey game lit like a Harold Barkley shoot? The next season, the Montreal Forum was renovated along with a quality lighting system. A new age in sports lighting was born.

  • Very cool. Beliveau, Fergie, Laparriere, Bobby Hull, Mikita, Gordie Howe. The ice surface seemed to be much larger than now, because the players were so much smaller.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. It captures the artistry of the game and illustrates how much more personal the game was in the no-helmet, 6 team NHL. Brilliant work!

  • Nicely done!!

  • Great footage from the last season of the Original Six. Many memories of some of the game's greats. A different game, a different era. No denying that today's players are bigger and more athletic and the game is faster. Still, the character and competitiveness of those players (before hockey became a business) laid the foundation for the game we know, love, and enjoy today.
