I'm Valerie Smaldone and this is Broadway Bulletin.

Passing Strange continues to think outside of the theatre box. Some people really get the show and others, well, they walk out. Depending on which category you fall into, you might be interested to know that the cast album is being recorded in front of a live audience Monday April 14th on the stage of the Belasco.

The details are still a secret at the moment, but one piece of information that the producers leaked is that admission will be a $20 cash donation to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, now in the midst of its annual spring fundraising drive.

One of the creators of Passing Strange, a man who only needs one name, Stew, recently said this about the upcoming live taping:
"More than just a live show document or a studio recording, we are aiming for a freaky hybrid of the two. The audience will be in on the process, witnessing it... But now, through the magic of theater, the studio is coming to the Belasco. And that's a lot more convenient than trying to fit several hundred people onto those black leather sofas in a recording studio."

Personally, I loved the music and the theme of Passing Strange, although I must admit the night I was there, some empty seats emerged once intermission ended. The CD will be released in June 2008.
