To all those who claim: El G wouldn't have had won the gold medal if he didn't trip, since Morceli had anyway a better finish. I'm posting this video, which shows what would have happened, if El Guerrouj didn't trip. From 3:10 you can see the latest 400m of the Grand-Prix in Milano 1996 (7. September 1996), which shows that El G can not only win races when he starts his speed-up 600-800m, but had a powerful last 400m-100m to win any race even against big athletes such as Morceli. Sorry for the bad quality :-(.

  • Why he did not win 2000 games ?

  • I think no1 could know what would have happened if hicham hadn't have stumbled over nouredddine's foot.anyway, they remain both ones of the best athletes I have ever seen along with aouita.

  • Since his 400m split for:

    800m - 1200m = 52.99, and

    1100m - 1500m = 52.6 (approximately), then

he must be averaging 52.8 seconds per lap.

    That's approximately a 1:46 last 800m!

  • Actually, what I notice is that El Guerrouj did go from a long way out (that would explain why the third lap was 52.99!); Morceli resorted to his usual tactics and took to the front, but trying to accelerate from a pace like that is suicidal, and you see the result. After the Olympics, El Guerrouj learned to be more in control of his races.

    08 Juillet: (Stockholm), 1. place 3:29:59 min

    10.Juillet: (Nice), 1. place 3:30:61 min

    03. août: (Atlanta) vous connaissez lhistoire

    14. août: (zurich): 1. place 3:30:22 min

    16. août: (cologne): 1. place 3:33:45 min

    23. août Bruxelles: (zurich): 1. place 3:29:05 min

    7. septembre, finale grand-prix: 1. place 3:38:80 min

  • wow, that's the first time i've ever seen el guerrouj actually wait until the last 100m to win it.
