Corky was captured from the wild on December 11, 1969...41 years ago. She was first sent to Marineland California to and lived with a male cousin named Orky for 17 years. They had 7 babies together, with the oldest surviving only 46 days.
In 1987, Corky & Orky were moved to SeaWorld CA. Orky died 1 1/2 years later, leaving Corky with no other family member from her wild pod.
Corky has lived in captivity longer than any other killer whale. She deserves a chance to retire, a chance to live in a sea pen in her natural waters, a chance to be free. Corky is a member of the Northern Resident Community. Her family is still alive and well known in the scientific community.

@EndlessOcean12 She could be placed in a sea pen; she could receive all the care she needs from her trainers. I interned at OrcaLab and was able to record the vocalizations of her family - her sister's matriline - and it was completely heartbreaking to think that Corky was unable to be free.
She might have had a better chance if they had done something before her mother died a few years ago.

corky cannot be released. she gets meds daily for several conditions she has. when she lived at marineland, she started to get liver problems and all. the seaworld vets examined her. i dont remember everything anymore from her medical stats and her conditions but i do know that she cant be free. she needs the meds daily. she had 4 calves she couldnt raise at marineland. she refused to feed them because of what she had. her stephdaughter is orkid and she is a part of the family at seaworld
