For best results, all this should be done on a local server. Did you do that?

Ah geez, why does everyone have to care whether their browser is half a second faster than someone else's?

All browsers are OK. Even Internet Explorer isn't that bad, although it can be a pain making websites work with it.

I use Firefox 2 and Firefox 3. And Opera 9.5. And Safari for Windows. And Netscape 9, 8 and 4. And occasionally Internet Explorer 7 or 6.

Always "too" inconsistent because of possible conflicting services, other installed software and when connecting to websites servers on the other end slow down latency efficiency. Thats why some websites open up faster then others. I use Opera, and most recently Safari beta 3 which is very impressive with its speed, just needs more developement with the bells and whistles. Nice testing.

I have done similar tests with FF 2.0.0.11, Opera 9.5 and Safari 3.0.4 on a windows based PC and have found essentially the same thing(s) as you. I was quite surprised to find out how much faster Safari was at loading and displaying pages, with FF coming in a very close second and Opera a very distant 3rd (which really surprised me). Now, if only Safari wasn't so boring looking and sparsely equipped with extras.

I'm sorry, but these speed test aren't accurate because speeds differe so much based on the computer you run it on.

IMO Opera is the top browser of them all.
