One of the few actual live filming of a territorial dispute between this two species of monkeys, the bigger and more aggressive Howler Monkeys (Alouatta Palliata Palliata) and the smaller, more shy and faster White Faced Monkeys (Cebus Capuchinus, also known as Capuchin) which in this case happens to outnumber the Howlers. Both this species share their habitat here south of the Nicoya Peninsula. The Howlers in this region outnumber the White Faced, which in the mid-pacific is the other way around. Is not very common to see White Faced Monkeys here around the humans. The actual fight is for their favorite "berry like" red fruit of the Capulin Tree which ripens at this season, at the same time as the mangoes do, but the mango is not from this latitude, it was brought from India, that is the reason why they usually bite the mangoes once or twice and then they don.t eat them, because they cannot digest them so well. Interesting because the White Faced monkeys are endemic of Costa Rica, also found south of Nicaragua and North of Panama, the Howlers are found in other Latin American Countries, and the Capulin Tree (Muntigia, Prunus Serotina) is specific from this latitude and by far their favorite snack. Is sad that this tree is not appreciated and most of the locals cut them.
