Jillith's brief, wordless tutorial of how to step into the hoop. My macbook wouldn't pick up my voice from that distance, sorry!

Music is "Voyager" by Daft Punk.

0:00 - 0:34
Demonstration of stepping in, and a brief kitty fight. :)

0:34 - 1:05
What to do with your legs. Hooping counterclockwise, step first with your left. Use that momentum to push off and lift your right foot, meanwhile turning your body 90 degrees in the direction of your hoop's rotation. Follow through by turning in a complete circle.

1:05 - 1:29
What to do with your hands. Begin by passing the hoop around your body. Then, allow the hoop an extra rotation as it reaches your front. Next, do the same thing, but switch hands in the middle of the rotation.

1:30 - 1:40
To begin the step-in, as the hoop reaches your right side, start to lift your left leg. As the hoop makes that extra rotation in front of you, drop the foot down into the hoop.

1:40 - 2:12
Combine it all!

It helps to keep the plane of the hoop very low (close to the ground) to execute the step-in.

As you turn, bring the hoop back up to your waist. It might even help to switch hands again, as you see me do at 2:05.

Ta-da!

  • Just found this! Great tutorial.....thank you. I am about to practice.

Your *backup dancers* try to steal the show. What divas!

  • Excellent job! You broke it down really well!

  • Nice! This looks like something I could do - which jumping into the hoop is not. I'm looking forward to trying! I like the verbal description, too.
