Silent Hill 4: The Room was originally envisioned as an unrelated game to the Silent Hill series, and therefore possesses a substantially different gameplay style than the other games. Gameplay is centered on the protagonist Henry's apartment, which is shown through a first-person perspective and contains the only save point. The other levels of the game are reached through mysterious holes formed in the apartment's bathroom and eventually laundry room. For the first half of the game the room will also heal the player. The second half of the game has the room become possessed by various hauntings which drain Henry's health.

In the main levels of the game the player uses the usual third person perspective of the Silent Hill series. Unlike other games the player only has a limited item inventory which can be managed by leaving unneeded items in a chest in Henry's room. Silent Hill 4 emphasizes combat during gameplay, with a near-absence of complex puzzles in favor of simple item-seeking tasks.

  • But if its not related why is an silent hill?!

  • @mrbloodshugar I'm not sure why they wanted to convert this terrible game to the world of Silent Hill. I know that they had a lot of loose ends from SH2 that they wanted to clear up like what happened to James and Mary. There are connecting characters like James'father and notes relating to Mry's condition. Also Walter Sullivan was a crazed murderer so they used him as doorway into taking different locations into Silent Hill. A bad choice IMHO.
