  • Yeah, got it used. I think it hasn't been made since 1990, though in Japan some specialty vehicles, like utility trucks and defense forces' jeeps were manufactured with the 12HT for several years more. The H55F transmission came with the engine, they were part of the same vehicle. I didn't need to rebuild anything, installed as it was, tuned it up and have put a good 3000 miles in it so far.

  • opps! I see you got it used!!

  • @paulowalkingtree

    Thanks for the info!

Did you need to purchase used.... or maybe it didn't need to be rebuilt?

Did you get the H55 transmission new or used?

    Thanks again.

  • Yep, the engine swap is very simple. Bolt in indeed. Radiator has to me modified a bit, but that was simple, same as the linkage for the accelerator, but other than that, not much.

12Ht is a 4 Liter straight six. My 85 FJ60 had a wonderful 2F petrol engine that was running like new, but this one gives me more power and torque.

Bought mine with the gear box for about $6000 US.

  • Is this a bolt in engine swap?

Is the 12ht four litre a straight 6 cylinder? I didn't think it was a 4 banker but I don't know much about them...

I have an 87' FJ 60 but love the diesel power.

    Thanks!

  • that's the sound of a healthy n strong engine

  • it is a nice car i have da same 1986/87 turbo diesel and it is fully automatik power machine with sunroof and wintch :)

  • Believe it or not, I found it complete with gearbox in an imported engine dealer in Costa Rica, used of course, but in a very good shape. Some used engine dealers bring them from Australia or Japan, where these battle tanks are still very common. Every once in a while, they pop out in the internet. Will surely reccommend this engine to anyone.

  • Where did you source your 12ht from?

    Thanks,

    Fellow 85 FJ60 owner
