President Rajapakse has emphasised that no country should permit terrorism to raise its head..
He pointed out that it is the obligation of Non-Aligned countries to work in unity for peace and security. The President was addressing the 15th Non Aligned summit at the Maritime Congress Hall in Egypt. He said he was proud to announce that his country has succeeded in eliminating one of the most brutal terrorist groups in the world. They had faith that all their friends who stood by them in their hour of need will continue to stand by them and walk with them in their journey to develop the island for the benefit of the people.

President Rajapakse strongly proposed the establishment of a permanent Secretariat for the Non-Aligned Movement. He also proposed to the summit to combine their substantial collective resources to establish an Emergency Financing facility which could be accessed in situations of the current sort.

  • i admire india trying to moderate the fanatics in the nam. their goals are not the same as most of the nam crowd. but i like the way the nam ganged up on ban at the un and beat down any investigation of alleged sri lankan war crimes. as a bloc they can bully the un and give the west a hard time. someone needed to humble the un butting in on peoples' rights to self defense. india and sri lanka have called on the nam to oppose terrorism. too bad thugs like syria iran and pakistan are in the nam.
