Let me address why hunters like big animals. Big animals are the archtype of the species. Fishermen are similarly disposed.

Let's be honest. What fisherman is happy catching a minnow when he might catch a monster trout?

Sport hunting and trophy hunting catches a lot of flak. I agree with the criticism if the meat is not utilized. Would the critics be happier if our nimrod hunter shoots the first yearling elk or fawn he happens across? A higher standard equals less killing and more hunting.
