The Children Beyond Chernobyl, Part 2/7

RTE's 2008 powerful and beautifully filmed documentary "Children Beyond Chernobyl" picks up where the Academy Award winning "Chernobyl Heart" left off. The film examines the work of Chernobyl Children's Project International (CCPI) and uses moving, intimate stories to describe how the charity and its volunteers are making a difference in Chernobyl affected regions of Belarus.

For this second of 7 parts, viewer discretion is advised. The segment shows a child receiving a tonsillectomy operation without anesthesia. (Since filming, the charity has raised funds to purchase an anesthesia machine for the hospital.) Later the segment shows volunteer builders making massive improvements to the living conditions in the Vesnova Children's Asylum, and interviews volunteers who describe why the work is meaningful to them.
