Mir Space Station Launch 1986

The Soviet Union launches into orbit Mir, a new space station. Mir, the Russian word for peace, has six docking ports, special laboratories for scientific research and improved cabins for cosmonauts. Weeks later, a veteran crew is sent to man the 56-foot-long and 13.6-foot wide station.

As far as I remember, the rocket is called "Proton". It's more or less a heavy lifter.

@TheTurbinator well, the yanks were jealous of it as it had the CCCP logo outside it and frelt like taking it to the shitter, which by next week the USA would like default their debt and collapse.

mir was very nice but have too much problems

Mir was one tough lady, If they didn't deorbit here she would have kept on rolling for another decade or two.

It should have been boosted to a really hight orbit as a monument to it's achievements, instead of deorbiting.
