Racism against Mexicans exposed

A fourth Staten Island teen has been sentenced in connection with the assault on a Mexican immigrant.

Tyrone Goodman, 18, was sentenced Wednesday to 16 months to four years in jail for attacking Rodolfo Olmedo while allegedly shouting anti-Mexican slurs. Olmedo's skull was fractured in the attack.

Three other teenagers were sentenced last month after pleading guilty to various robbery and attempted robbery charges.

The beating was among a number of assaults committed against Mexican immigrants last year in Port Richmond, which sparked a concentrated police presence in the area.

Despite claims the teens shouted anti-Mexican slurs, they were not indicted on hate crime charges that could have brought stiffer sentences.

Goodman was sentenced as a youthful offender, meaning the conviction will not go on his record.

If a group of white teens had attacked a person of another race and shouted racial slurs it most definitely would have been designated a hate crime. Seriously, I've heard of other stories like this where blacks attack a person or people for being another race and they aren't charged with committing a hate crime. What the fuck? This little punk fractured a persons skull and he's eighteen, why shouldn't he get stiffer sentences and be charged as an adult?
