@mariodefacci Yes: a 'carat' is an unit of mass used for gemstones (and pearls, which are not "stones,") which is equal to 0.200 grams. A five-carat stone thus weighs one gram; the subdivisions for carat-weight are in "points" which are hundredths of a carat. The "Karat," on the other hand, is the measure of purity in Gold. 24k is pure gold, refined to 99.9998% purity; 12k is 50% gold and 50% other (base) metals, usually with a significant proportion of silver.
