At Chernobyl there was no nitrogen injection beneath the reactor. The miners filled the space under the reactor with concrete.

The concept of the China Syndrome derives from the old idea that if you dug a hole deep enough you would emerge in China.Obviously, however, any molten radioactive material would only penetrate until it reached the magma long before the centre of the earth, which of course is also the centre of gravity, beyond which nothing would go even if it were not completely melted by that point.

@greenb1a Confuses bozos, perhaps.
But anyone with 1/2 a brain understands it is a term popularized by a movie - a movie which brought the idea of a 'China Syndrome' happening to Americans, most of whom, up to that point, never had a clue that a reactor could literally melt down thru the Earth's crust.

@sfkingofswords What a fking moron?
He buys a geiger counter yet his wife won't "let" him use it. What a jellyfish of a man.

Hartmann does not seem to realise that a geiger counter is useless for assessing the contamination of food. That requires a complex testing procedure at a lab. A geiger counter might be useful for checking bags of fertiliser, etc.
