What agassi's dad to the dude who cut him off?...........well he sped past the guy and got in front of him to stop the dude...........they argued......and his dad beat the holy crap out of him that andre thought his dad killed the man.......there are getting your ass kicked....and theres where it looked like you just got killed
Maybe if you read my rebuttal that is posted right under your comment you would see that I read the book. I stand by what I said. I just said that he did it through his "vision", what Mike's dreams were for his kid. Andre didn't get to choose to go to college or do anything else until he basically won Wimbledon in '92. There is a reason why Gil Reyes is who Andre considers his true father. Andre didn't want tennis, his father did. This is fact.
I read Open and obviously you are citing most of the information from it, but you are missing the concept that he used his son to become rich, which he did. Sure, it helped Andre and many children with his foundation but the point here is the psychological effect it had on Andre and the long term bitterness and the awkward relationship they now have due to it. Is money really worth that? This guy only cared when Andre achieved the dreams he set out for him, no choice.
@dkizzy84 Actually considereing he came from a single room with a dirt floor in Iran where his whole family lived, his dad did ok for himself, making the Olympic boxing team & eventually coming to the US, getting a job in the casino, starting a family & building a tennis court in the desert. Agassi would never be the player he became without his dad being willing to be the asshole. Later he got a more understanding father figure in Gil Reyes but it was his dad that laid the foundation.
Andre was a little hard on Mike in his book, I think, and may have exaggerated a few times for purposes of story -- literary license. He said his grandma's mole on her nose was the size of a "walnut" and called her "nasty." If it was not that size, and could not have been physically without being the same size as a nose, then his credibility issue is exposed. He exaggerated. He's bitter about his childhood, obviously. That's OK. Many are. Mike "Ax Handle" Agassi -- the villain sports dad now.
@LTLBawler Absolutely agree with you.I've read the book too,and I learned that his father is strict and cruel sometimes,Andre also afraid of him,but he loves his father. When he first left his fathers house,he was sad.All these jerks calling a man an asshole just because a couple of sentences. Idiots.

@dkizzy84 Nah...Andre never "wanted" tennis. Read Andre's book before you make conclusions.
