Infestations of Mealy bugs on Parthenium were observed in forests where Cotton or Papaya was never grown. Parthenium population was surrounded by large trees like Butea monosperma, Terminalia alata, Terminalia bellirica, Diospyros melanoxylon etc. Mealy bug infestation was not observed in these tree species. It was restricted to Partheium only. In another location in Shorea robusta leaves infestation of mealy bug was observed but of different type. Ants (Associated with mealy bugs) were of same species in both Shorea and Parthenium.
The Traditional Healers using Parthenium as medicine and also different types of mealy bugs in Entomotherapy are taking keen interest in presence of mealy bugs on Parthenium.
