University of Wisconsin-Madison scientists are helping search for alien life forms, but they will never go into space. They are studying Earth rocks that are billions of years old, looking for information. (Feb. 13)

So being able to confirm that life exists outside of Earth is a waste of tax dollars? If we can say that Mars or Titan or anywhere else in our solar system has life then the possibility that the exo-planets we're discovering have life is high, and maybe intelligent life we can contact goes up significantly. The amount of money taken up by SETI is almost nothing and it's not publicly funded. The size of military and social security spending dwarfs NASA's budget.

I didn't purchase my computer with tax dollars so... um... wtf are you talking about? What is interesting tho is the computer that you're using to boycott education was developed thanks to advancements made during the space race. You wouldn't be able to troll without this 'waste of tax dollars'. So tell me, old man- who's living in a glass trailer court now?

I agree if there is inteligent life beyond Earth it would be at least 10-30 light years away extremely optimistically. But just like the Moon landing showed, if there's a target, some political will and determination humans don't like being told no or that it's beyond their reach. Discovering microbial life within our solar system is the first step, that's why we're on Mars and that's why we should be on Titan, with robotic probes or otherwise.

Thanks for the Reply kolar. I feel that if there is any Life beyond Our Galaxy. They are way beyond Our reach! I say, if your gonna Dream, then Dream Big! I loved watching Our Men on the Moon back in the 60's. NASA is young, compared to War. China as an example, has One Soldier, for every Three U.S. Citizens. Over the Years, the Gov. pilfer from S.S. Funds, when they needed Money. Then threaten those on S.S. they may not get Paid, if the Congress doesn't approve Pass the Buck Legislation.
