  • Is it a Netbook? is it a Notebook?

Is it a Samsung NC20? Yes - and it's awesome.

  • :/

You haven't been in the computer game for long, have you...

Reviews tend to be, much like synthetic benchmarks, tell you only how well it will work under specific conditions.

It's not a proper real world test.

So if VIA's cpu comes out on top, it's unlikely it will in the real world.

Plus, the point of a netbook is to do the internet, the Atom does this just fine, if not better, so... why do you need more power?

Just buy a full sized laptop then... or a desktop! :O

  • intel chipset and cpu is the best in terms of reliability and compatibility. via does not sell because it is crap.

  • via is a joke. who would spend that much money on a poor performing product with millions of issues. Via stands for low quality. All of the via products i ever own have major problems. The only solution i found is to sell it and buy something else.

  • Not tiny cubes that do anything, those aren't out there. :P

But yes, nVidia is making excellent progress, but they're not VIA, so it's got nothing to do with what we're talking about.

I do not have a dual core atom. I got an Acer Aspire 1 10.1inch with 2gb ram and a 250Gb 7200rpm hard drive... I have the video card clocked to 400Mhz all the time.

I'm pretty sure streaming video still uses the hard drive as a buffer...

  • @QuantumCarl yes, because the technology is out there (nVidia Tegra/ION, ARM, Snapdragon) and if you check Wikipedia you'll see the Atom "solution" isn't even that power efficient.

Also, you play HD youtube videos fine because you probably have a dual core atom. My gf's EEEPC 701 does not play them and the CPU is at 100%, there's free ram and the hard drive doesn't have much to do with it since it's streamed

Search youtube for "home" and try to play that - then come back with the results pls

  • Yes.

    How silly of me.

I am a fool and this is proven through youtube comments on a single video about a bunch of chumps bein' like "OMGGGGG THIS IS ONE OFF SO IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN MAINSTREAM!"

    e_e

  • I can play HD youtube just fine...

Get more ram and a faster hard drive.

I know intel isn't all rainbows, but fucking shit, you're expecting too much from something this small.

If you understood the hardware aspect of it, this little thing is doing some amazing stuff!

But, the consumer is a moron usually, who thinks that we should have computers that can do everything, last for 48 hours, and be the size of a sugar cube. e_e

  • @QuantumCarl

    You actually a fool.

  • Uh.

What the fuck are you even talking about?

Acer/HP/Dell/IBM aren't being forced in to anything. If they wanted to buy something else, they would.

Hell, I'm on an Atom right now.

    It's wonderful.

The ION platform is expensive. :/

nVidia seems to think that everyone's made of money.

I still buy from them, though. I guess I'm an nVidiafag.

    GRANTED, I'm also an AMDfag...

Benchmarks show system specific results and are non-comparable.

  • the point of the netbook is to do the internet and intel's atom sucks at "doing" flash together with the intel GMA chipsets they're shoving down everyone's throat. nVidia has technologies that can play HD video on external displays and still leave breathing room for the CPU. Intel is not all rainbows.

You might settle for less power in your netbook but as technology advances, that little netbook will be able to do more and more - intel's dual core/single core Atom can't even play HD youtube

  • I've been in the IT business long enough to see what intel is doing which is shoving subpar technologies down resellers/OEM builders throats. They paired the atom cpu and chipset and sold them with a discount which is forcing the hands of acer/hp/dell/ibm to adopt intel only technologies while viable alternatives such as VIA's nano, nVidia's ION and are left in the dust.

and Yes, benchmarks done for winrar, video decoding, game framerates, FLASH are indicative of the speed of the platform
