CSX northbound freight Q580 (Possibly Q582) takes the siding in Cowan,TN on 12/30/09. You may be able to see the helpers cut off on the fly.

  • When they cut off on the move like that. They have automatic pin pullers. They are boxes that sit on the walkways of the pusher engines, the creww pushes a button inside and it pulls the pin and they just brake and let the train go on. They don't hook up the air hoses on the train to the pusher engines. The engineer runs in the slack on the knuckles and they pull the pin remotely.
