Frederick County Maryland Solar Energy System. Frederick Community College Digital Media ( http://www.frederick.edu/courses_and_programs/degree_tv.aspx ) filmed the solar electric and battery back-up system owned by Bill Drenning, a resident of Woodsboro in Frederick County, Maryland.
The dual axis tracker SunPower 2.52 kW pole mounted arrays (5.04 kW in total featuring SunPower 210 Watt Solar Panels and two Xantrex Solar Inverters), installed by solar panel installer Standard Solar ( http://www.StandardSolar.com ), have produced 8,000 kWh worth of electricity in the first year of operation.
The electricity sold to the property by Allegheny Power flickers once or twice per week, resetting all of the clocks in the house. The home has lost power for several consecutive days over the past few years due to ice storms and Hurricane Isabelle. The battery back up system kicks in seamlessly during temporary and extended outages.
