A mix&mash of Paul Kelly in performance over six months...
We filmed Paul Kelly over a number of months and realised we could do something unique: we took all the multitrack recordings of Paul performing HOW TO MAKE GRAVY - totalling 98 tracks - and interwove, overlapped and mixed them to create a continuous compilation performance across different venues.

It moves from the intimacy of his A To Z shows and rehearsal, to playing the Corner Hotel and the Falls Festival main stage.

Christmas seemed the perfect time to share this mix&mash of a classic.

These were filmed and recorded for the feature documentary PAUL KELLY: STORIES OF ME, a film by Shark Island Productions - coming in 2012.

  • I defy anyone to watch this and NOT smile. Paul you are my favourite poet, my life soundtrack, my inspiration, HELL - you're my reason for smiling today. Thanks :) - Beck

  • There are talented songwriters/performers .. and then there are great songwriters/performers ... and then there are great songwriters/performers who make a special connection with their audience and who REEK authenticity.

(For me) Springsteen does that when you talk US ... but I rate Paul just as great.

Kudos to the film makers for this great idea of the mashup ... I've not seen that before.

    Brilliant work everyone.

  • I will NEVER forgive you guys for knowing about this artist yet refuse to tell me about him until now!

  • Awesome!! Love Paul Kelly!

  • Wish I could go back to Glasgow with Paul Kelly .......

  • Seamus2204 I agree absolutely.....I had never heard of him until I found my long lost Brother in Oz...he introduced me to this amazing guy and I have never looked back...saw him in London in August and will do again in Feb....ther best gift ever was getting a load of his cds in Jan 2009 as a belated christmas present.....I am a total fan now love him to bits....

  • class ! it is a musical crime that this talented guy is largely unknown outside of Australia

  • I don't care what people say but PK will always be the greatest songwriter of all time, compare him to whoever you want, Dylan or Springsteen and even Neil Young but Kelly's songwriting captures the emotion and the heartfelt but yet in such a simple way.

My example being PK got the Gravy recipe from his father in law ;) can't wait for the film :)

  • Storyteller number one!

  • FANTASTIC!!! Love this!
