Kaleidoscope Photo

Description: This tutorial will teach you how to make a kaleidoscope picture using your ordinary stock photos

Things you'll need:
Adobe Photoshop. Here, I'm using CS3 Extended.
Photo to edit. Here, I'm using a picture of Bou, former guitarist of An Cafe because I like how the colors are

bright in this picture and kaleidoscope pictures are always bright.

Step 1: Switch to full screen mode with menu. I do this because I will be stretching the canvas size later.
Step 2: Crop any unwanted area of the picture. Here, I'm cropping this up to his shoulder so that the kaleidoscope

effect will be more realistic later on. (you'll see what I mean later)
Step 3: duplicate the layer. You can do this simply by using ctrl+J
step 4: duplicate the width of the canvas. Go to Image-canvas size. Make sure that the background is white, then

set the width to 200 percent, and height to 100 percent. Then move the square in the middle to the middle left hand

side. You canvas size will be stretched to the right.
step 5: Using the move tool, move the duplicated layer to the blank space of the canvas.
Step 6: Transform the layer by using Ctrl+T and right clicking on it and selecting flip horizontal. Now Bou looks

as if he's standing back to back with his twin.
Step 7: Merge down the layers and duplicate the resulting layer.
Step 8: Now we will stretch the canvas size to the bottom. Go again to Image-canvas size anf again, make sure that

the background is white. Now, set the width to 100 percent and the height to 200 percent. Now move the square to

the middle top. The canvas should now be stretched to the bottom.
Step 9: Since the image now is so large, we will have to make it fit to the screen. Click on view-fit to screen

and you will now be able to see the entire image nicely.
Step 10: Since we have duplicated the layer before, Use the move tool once again and move the duplicated layer to

the bottom part of the canvas.
Step 11: Transform the layer again and this time, you will select flip vertical instead of flip horizontal.
Step 12: right click on the thumbnail view and holding the alt key, select merge visible. A new layer will be

formed where all the layers are merged together.
Step 13: Transform the image again and this time, select rotate 90(degrees) CW.
Step 14: hold the ctrl key and click on the thumbnail view of the rotated image. Go to Image-crop. The image will

now be cropped just around the rotated mage. Use ctrl+d to disselect.
Step 15: change the blend mode of the selected layer to either multiply or lighten.
Step 16: repeat step 12.
Step 17: Rotate the image to 45(degrees) we do this by using ctrl+t again and near the menu, there are some

textboxes with images beside them. change the one next to the angle symbol from 0.0 to 45.
step 18: change the blend mode of this layer too. I like to experiment on which blend modes will work nicely with

each other. For this one, the layer rotated to 90(degrees) and 45 (degrees) are both lighten.

Save the image and we're done.

Thank you for watching~! :)
