This reminds me of so much,,, I bought this record in september 67... thats was when the king mojo was in its last days... i had so many friends ans l have so many memorys....
i read docswerve and would like to point out that northern soul was called that in britain because it was northern england where the music was played at wigan casino which is a town near manchester, the record to own...frank wilsons do i love you indeed i do sells for megabucks over hear yet as far as i know never got into our charts like brenton woods did, just put northern soul into your search engine there are vids on you tube that explain it
Great live vocals, even with the JB grunts there..awesome.
FYI, the backing band is "Kent and the Candidates" I'm not sure who the female singer is though..
On the back of the Oogum BOogum LP he is shown with Dick Clark on American Bandstand, , and receiving an Gold award by Irwin Zucker. He was label mates with the Count Five, of all bands. Weird combo,b ut it worked for Double SHot! I like both bands but for entirely different reasons.
@docswerve it's funny how your comment is flagged as spam! I don't agree with that tactic!
but anyways from my POV, growing up near Detroit, it was always said that Northern Soul was the smaller labels that were EMULATING Motown. They could be anywhere in the world. I do agree though, Brenton is in a class of his own. I hate his "psychotic reaction' version though..they use the Count five backing track, and have him seeming out of sorts on it, with bad organ drowning out the fuzz guitar...
Oh WOW! He's actually REALLY SINGING!! :D what a bonus. Seriously.
And Brenton Wood footage is rare as all.
He's my favorite Sam Cooke emulator. :D Actually I think Sam is reincarnated in Brenton. It's funny on the back of the "Double Shot" LP Oogum Boogum, they say that it's his first LP. Wrong. he released an LP 3 years earlier on Brent records. And that is one knockout album.thanks for the video!
Is the best
