  • Pushing drugs on our children is a crime against humanity. When psychiatrists prescribe psychotropic drugs they have no medical objective science to validate their action. They do nothing to address the real causes. Drugs are toxic. They have serious adverse effects especially when they are used longterm. They are also very addictive and can be impossible for some people when they want to withdraw. Psychiatric survivors worldwide know from experience that 'drugs do more harm than good'.

  • OpenComments you're a fucking moron. The debate is between an investigative reporter from the Washington Times against a psychiatrist. I highly doubt the reporter or the psychiatrist are scientologists.

  • the same kids recommended to psychiatric care when the root of their behaviour (more often than not) is the product of abuse which parents/guardians are reluctant to ever admit to...so what choice do (SOME) Doc's have but put kids on meds when the kid looks like a liar because of uncooperative adults or his behaviour is seen as something just random... then who's at fault for the drug pushing if the child remains in a toxic environment..

but cnn doesn't want to offend their viewers ofcourse.

  • and it seemed like the doctor was probably under the same assumption as i was upon clicking this useless debate... before the investigator/columnist AND cnn host persisted with the adhd drug pushing argument towards the second half mark.. kids have depression, kids have suicidal thoughts, they have ptsd, panic attacks, anxiety disorders... why didn't they cover that??

  • Is this debate about ADHD or behavioural issues in general? Kids suffer from other mental issues than adhd.. either the title of this vid is misleading or the topic which cnn chose to label this debate

  • @BlueEagle8 The truth is that the school board does make money for every child goes on ADD/ ADHD drugs, which the child must now attend the special education classes for learning disabilities. It is under the Individual Development Education Assistance Act of 1985. The government allotted over $2 billion for this program.

  • ADD and ADHD are created by psychiatrists ( DSM-1V). There is no scientific prove what so ever on these labels. Ritaline is a hard-drug/ speed and therefore always harming. The farmaceutical industry has just one interest and that is selling their medicine's. There not there for you're health.

America 2011: stick a label, stuff them full with dangerous drugs and they'll do what ever Obama says. Obama will also help to kill yourself (Health care Bill)

  • What is being treated? Well, for one, troubling and troublesome behavior, and not discreet disease states! This is about the altering of the individual so as to alter the social; and such is the manner in which the collectivist-coercive dimension of institutional psychiatry acts as our culture's social engineer.

  • The psychiatrists statement, starting at 1:47, is most telling. Whether symptoms are attached to a disorder or not? Such a paradigm, that by altering the individual, one alters the social, is borne out by the doctor's assertion that such medicating will treat symptoms and get them "out of the way", so that children and families can benefit from other treatments that last a lifetime. Really? Who clearly benefits from this decidely reductive take to problems in living and social conflict?

  • lol a lot of the research conducted is flawed. Up to 75% of reports may be ghost-written (Healy, 2004), which is often BEFORE the research and results are obtained. If 10 studies are done and 9 show negative results, they only have to publish the 1 report that shows 'good' results, and these results are often altered. Many of these reports are conducted and funded by the drug companies. There is NO such thing as a 'chemical imbalance'. There are NO medical tests to show it.

  • the usa is a very crazy messed up country i feel sorry for the average person over there. people are just spending machines.
