So beautiful and serene... I love all the different canyons in and around Dahab, really want to spend a considerable amount of time exploring there!
10mins BT will not do for me :) plus on air or Nx you're not going to remember that much anyway

Well no I didn't...I learned it the right way the first time and the 5 tanks don't weight anything in the water by the way :-), that's what we call trim and gear configuration.
-
The 90% that you are talking about is not very accurate...actually last year 26 divers died in Dahab, 5 of them doing deep air dives on single tank, 11 of them doing deep air dives on Twin set...and all in the 60 to 95 meter range [nitrogen narcosis builds up with time at depth], 4 because of equipment failure, 1 passive panics, 1 unexperienced diver, 1 doing a wrong gas switch, 1 heart attack and finally 2 alcool abuse the night before. And diving on air at 60 meters is not inn anymore...
-
And no, I will also not encourage to do that...but I believe my decision is sound to do what I do (and my Buddies who have the same view). It does not mean that we are suicidal... when I look at recent statistics I notice that over 90% of the diving accidents related to depth in the Dahab region were technical divers...so its live and let live, I suppose.. :-)

I would agree with you if it was greater depths than 60 m OR overhead environment OR very long BT (with another purpose than mere fun, ie. science) but for a 10 min BT dive at Abu Talha I will certainly not consider to carry all that gear.

I can see a diver with 5(!) tanks in your video...man! THAT much weight & drag for 25 min vs. 10 min? (plus 1 hr deco time??) Well, as you know and I am sure that you do, there are many divers who do dives like this with the same configuration as we and it is hard for me to believe that you have never done it yourself ;-) .

Well - not quite a single tank (EAN 36 decogas, remember?). Swim out shallow, then straight down to 60 and follow the upwards slope of the canyon. When the clock shows 15 min deco at about 50 m begin the ascent. Deco clocks up to 25 min and we ride it out switching to EAN 36 at a depth of 18 m but leave the comp in EAN 21 mode. The 10 min bottom time are less than half of what you guys did but still beautiful enough.

A 55-60 meters dive, 10 minutes bottom time, 25 min. decompression, EAN 21, deco gas EAN 36..a very beautiful dive, however, without all the heavy gear...we were down there just before you guys
-
wow
Maybe, but on a single tank at this depth...I will not give my comment about that, we had a 28 minutes bottom time and we dive twice a week here and this since more then 7 years. So for those diving at this depth I will strongly not encourage to do that...
But yes your right its a beautiful dive :-)
