In April 2009, we asked six wine experts to find the top tipples in amongst seven reds and seven whites available in Hong Kong for under HK$100. As it's the festive season with New Year's Eve just around the corner, we thought we would repeat the exercise with champagne.
This time around, there was no price limit and one of the eight samples can fetch up to HK$1,000 per bottle. Our panel comprised Tiffany Pinkstone, director of the Sovereign Art Foundation; Barry Tam, who works in real estate; Eric Lee, a sales and marketing manager; Nicholas Pegna, the head of wine merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd (and host of the event); Victoria Burrows; editor of the Post's Good Eating supplement; and Creash Wong, chief sommelier at The Royal Garden Hotel.
All the bottles were supplied by local distributors on a random basis. The tasting was carried out "blind" meaning no one knew the bottles before trying. Happy New Year!
