Professor Jeffrey Rupert realizes his vision of resurrecting the concept of the Jazztet during the 2nd Annual UCF Jazz Festival. The Jazztet relies heavily on the improvisational skills of its six members and became one of the most influential small groups of the 60's jazz scene. (2009)
Professor Rupert is really on to something here. These kids turned in a terrific performance. Was glad to hear "Killer Joe" as a fitting reference to Golson and Farmer's original Jazztet. I still play jazz guitar more than 50 years after my early exposure in a high school small ensemble, I can't thank my own teachers now, but I can thank Professor Rupert for a delightful experience seeing these talented young musicians get such a great boost! Best of luck with next year's UCF Jazztet!
