  • I agree with all you say here. I consider myself a radical Anabaptist. It is unsettling to see as I have travelled how non evangelistic Mennonites have become. I am Mennonite but I have seen that most are professional evaluators of truth rather then bearers of truth. I would say get on the horse and ride it then you can stear the direction. There needs to be another radical awakening of Mennonites to evangelism. Tim Sauder - teacher-Mennonite church Panama.

  • @kreed91944 I would think that there is little connection of the Baptist and Mennonites. Some conservatives get into their circles by confusion but they are eternal security Calvinist for one thing, strongly militaristic for another. Their concept of Christianity is say a little sinners prayer and you are eternally secure. I doubt their is a connection. I had to work with them in Korea and they are not even converted in the sense of following Christ's example in anything.

  • The quiet witness of Amish & Mennonites is intensely appealing to me. I honestly believe that if you seek the Spirit, you will sooner find it in the silence and in charitable deeds, than in noisy sermons and coercive street evangelization. Perhaps the Spirit speaks differently to each person, but I feel not enough is said about how respectful the Anabaptist witness really is. These people seem to be light years ahead of society in general in actually living out their interior lives.

  • @frnz444 As an outsider (Roman Catholic with an interest in the Anabaptist tradition), one of the things that has cemented my respect for Mennonite and Amish witness is its quietude: it's not in your face or coercive. To me it is all about respect for the other. Groups that evangelize noisily are in danger of missing the whisper of the Spirit. When I observe the quiet industriousness and life discipline of the Anabaptists, I see the Spirit at work in them. Their witness needs no bombast.

  • Hah another demon

  • Thanks. I thought about looking into the Amish and see how they live. I know they live very basic lives. no tv, etc.

  • Independent fundamentalist Baptists are only related to Anabaptists in that both groups claim to be Christ-followers.

Baptists might claim Anabaptists as their spiritual ancestors, but the only modern descendents of the Anabaptists are the Mennonites, Hutterites and Amish.

In summary, I can't speak for how well or poorly Independent fundamentalist Baptists follow Jesus' commandment that his followers should be peacemakers (Matthew 5).

  • What about the Indenpedant fundamental baptists? Are they a peaceful people?
