Today on LonsTV, Lon takes a look at the new search-ish site Qwiki, which creates automated multimedia slideshows based on search queries. Right now, the site is largely just indexing Wikipedia and then 'reading' you the text while showing photos that match up to the topics discussed.
The experience is at once impressive and sort of pointless, like having a really smart robot read to you. Sure, it's kind of cool, but wouldn't you get more out of doing the reading and research yourself? How does this really save you any effort, when it's really just preventing you from taking control of the research experience?

Lon also discussed the recent Mahalo 4.0 launch, and why he somewhat disagrees with Mahalo CEO Jason Calacanis that the move represents a pivot. Instead, Lon thinks it's more the culmination of the entire project to date; making curated search and information exchange truly "gel" as a concept.

Lon also talked about his experience riding the bus from Los Feliz to Santa Monica. He only got off the bus at the wrong stop once. Hilarity did not ensue.

There must be a niche group that would like to "passively research"! :(

I guess Qwiki is useful if you are blind. That voice does drive you nuts after a while.
