Fantastic! Sounds like life is a lot quieter in an all-electric car too, especially when stationary. Bet you get some funny looks when you're setting off from a junction with people stood there, not being able to hear the Bug's original exhaust note! :D

@MrPete81 I definitely get many funny looks. I have all the components visible in the back of the car, so people can easily tell it's different.
I'm asked about it very frequently. About 1/3 of times I take it out!

@kjaonline You totally can do this! If money's a problem, you can spend more time finding parts and doing more yourself. Look up "forkenswift" for an awesome low-budget project.

Great video. It sounds like a tram or light rail starting up. I presume this is a manual car? (I have no idea if transmission works differently in EVs)

@theultimatecomment It's the stock VW manual transmission. Electric motors have more torque to start with, so the gear ratios can be different, but it's easiest to keep the stock gearbox. I just start in 2nd as if it were a big truck. It has a clutch but I don't need to use it when starting from a stop.
