Alice Gerrard leads the audience in singing Bear Me Away, a song she learned from Bruce Greene. The audience is singing (as a drone) a B note. Alice had a few weeks ago suffered an injury to her vocal cord during general anesthesia. The hospital staff nicked it with a breathing tube, and participating in the Blue Ridge Old Time Music Week was her first singing since the injury. Alice had, as she said, to take it a little easy during the week; she still sounded great.
On stage with Alice (left to right) is Sule Greg Wilson, Beverly Smith and Mac Traynham.
Thank you Alice, this is heartbreakingly beautiful.
