Qarem and Nasir are Muslim-American youths living in Queens, NY on the eve of a national crisis. Qarem dreams warn of impending danger, as his world is violently shaken by the events of September 11th. Though he is not Saudi Arabian, as the majority of the hijackers/conspirators are, he is singled out on account of being Muslim and Afghani for that matter. His social interactions with the local citizenry degenerate into confrontation, his job marketability deteriorates, and now his childhood friend Nasir is in the custody of federal agents, accusing him of sending money home to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
Focusing on what the law refers to as "hate crimes," Al Qarem is an Afghan-American tale of prejudice, paranoia, and suspense. The audience is taken back to dramatic events surrounding the 9-11 attacks by analyzing its effect on a small community in Flushing, Queens. Particularly of interest is the apprehension of a global metropolis and a cruel backlash against all Muslims and anyone perceived as such. The film takes a plunge into modernity gone awry.

He was not alone. 100s of Pakistanis, Afghanis, Arabs, Bangalis were locked in U.S without any proof or charges. They only had to be muslim to be a suspect. Be careful my brothers !
